The 1967 Roosevelt dime stands as a fascinating specimen from a transitional era in American coining. Struck in copper and nickel rather than the traditional silver alloy of earlier decades, this particular coin originates from a Special Mint Set (SMS). These sets were produced by the United States Mint to offer collectors a higher-quality finish during a period when traditional proof sets were temporarily suspended. On the obverse, the coin features the sharp left-facing profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Surrounding the portrait are the classic inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1967 date. The initials JS are also visible near the base of the neck, representing the designer's signature. The reverse of the dime displays a detailed trio of symbols: a central torch representing liberty, flanked by an olive branch symbolizing peace on the left and an oak branch representing strength and independence on the right.
