1969-1984 Australia Dodecagonal 50 Cent Elizabeth II BU

0.0000 troy oz .917 Brilliant Unc

Australia departed from traditional round coinage with this striking twelve-sided, or dodecagonal, fifty-cent piece. Struck between 1969 and 1984, this distinctive shape immediately sets it apart in the hand, offering a tactile and visual departure from standard circulating coinage of the era. The obverse of the coin displays the second official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, shown in profile facing left. The clean lines of this royal effigy contrast beautifully with the coin's multi-angled rim, creating a balanced and modern aesthetic. On the reverse, the coin features the official Coat of Arms of Australia. This detailed heraldic composition is proudly supported by two of the continent's most famous native animals, the kangaroo and the emu. This particular example, struck at the Perth Mint, remains in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of the design just as they appeared when the coin was first minted.
