In the early 1970s, the Bahamas celebrated its national identity through a striking five dollar silver coin. Struck by the Franklin Mint between 1972 and 1973, this piece contains 1.2527 troy ounces of actual silver content, minted in 0.925 fine sterling silver. The coin was produced in two distinct finishes, with a mintage of 32,000 brilliant uncirculated pieces and 35,000 proof specimens. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by her name. On the reverse, the official Coat of Arms of the Bahamas takes center stage, flanked by a leaping sailfish on one side and a flamingo on the other. This side also features the denomination of five dollars and the national motto, which urges a collective movement onward and upward.
