1973-S 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar Proof (OGP)
This striking silver dollar from 1973 brings together two major chapters of twentieth-century American history on a single canvas. Struck at the San Francisco Mint with a forty percent silver composition, this proof coin displays a left-facing profile of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The obverse is anchored by the word LIBERTY arching above the former general and president, with the traditional motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned to the left of his neck. The S mint mark and the 1973 date are clearly visible below his portrait. Flip the coin over to discover a detailed adaptation of the Apollo XI mission insignia. An American eagle is depicted descending toward the surface of the moon, clutching an olive branch in its talons. In the background, the planet Earth hangs in space, with the shape of North America visible on its surface. Thirteen stars encircle the eagle, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the ONE DOLLAR denomination frame this historic lunar scene.
