1976 Israel Gold Operation Jonathan-Entebbe Raid Medal PF W/Box
In 1976, Israel issued a striking gold commemorative medal to mark the dramatic hostage rescue mission known as the Entebbe raid. Struck to a proof finish by the Holy Land Mint (Israel Coins and Medals Corp.), this piece represents a significant moment in mid-century history. The medal is composed of 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.965 troy ounces of actual gold weight. The obverse of the medal features a detailed design combining the emblem of the Israeli Defense Force with an olive branch, set against the backdrop of an airplane fuselage. This imagery directly references the airborne nature of the rescue operation. The reverse is dedicated to a powerful inscription from the Book of Psalms (Psalm 18:17), which reads "He sent from above and took me" in both Hebrew and English. The text is accompanied by inscriptions marking "Operation Jonathan" and the date of the rescue, July 4, 1976.
