1976-S 40% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar BU

0.1479 troy oz .400 1976 Brilliant Unc

In 1976, the United States celebrated its bicentennial with a special commemorative coinage program. Among these issues is this 40 percent silver half dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint. Containing 0.1479 troy ounces of pure silver, this coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing its original luster and sharp details just as it looked when it left the press. The obverse features a portrait of President John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. Instead of a single year, this special issue bears the dual date of 1776 1976 along the bottom rim, accompanied by the traditional mottoes IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY. On the reverse, Seth Huntington's design replaces the standard presidential seal with a detailed rendering of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This historic building is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR, alongside the declaration of 200 YEARS OF FREEDOM, marking two centuries of American independence.
