The obverse shows the classic left-facing profile of George Washington, designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the dual bicentennial dates. The mint mark S is also visible on this side. The reverse features a unique design created specifically to mark the 200th anniversary of the nation. It depicts a colonial drummer alongside a victory torch surrounded by thirteen stars.
