1978-D Kennedy Half Dollar BU
The 1978 half dollar struck at the Denver Mint represents a classic era of modern United States coinage. This particular specimen remains in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original strike. Unlike earlier silver issues, this coin features a clad composition consisting of an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded securely to a core of pure copper. On the obverse, the profile of President John F. Kennedy faces left, a design created by Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned below the bust, while the mint mark "D" indicates its origin in Denver. The reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, features a detailed heraldic eagle clutching both a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace. The traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is integrated into the reverse design, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR."
