The 1979 Kennedy half dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, stands as a classic representative of modern American coinage. This particular issue is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster and sharp details of a coin that never entered general circulation. Unlike earlier silver issues in the series, this coin features a clad composition consisting of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. This bust is accompanied by the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, inscribed across the lower field, with the word LIBERTY arching over the top of the design and the date 1979 placed at the bottom. The Denver origin is indicated by the small D mint mark positioned just above the date. On the reverse, Frank Gasparro's powerful rendition of the Great Seal of the United States takes center stage. A heraldic eagle grips a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, representing both strength and peace. The eagle is surrounded by a ring of stars, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the bold inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR.
