The 1980 Kennedy half dollar struck at the Denver Mint offers a compelling look at modern United States coinage. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its dual-artist design just as it appeared when leaving the coining press. Rather than precious silver, this issue is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded securely to a core of pure copper, a metallic combination that became the standard for circulating half dollars starting in the early 1970s. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy dominates the field. This likeness was created by Gilroy Roberts, capturing the leader's profile with the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST positioned below the bust. The Denver mint mark, indicated by a small letter D, is also visible on this side, denoting its origin at the Colorado facility. The reverse side presents an intricate heraldic design by Frank Gasparro. It features an eagle clutching both a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing the dual powers of defense and peace. The traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is displayed alongside the country name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value, HALF DOLLAR.
