1981 Hong Kong Gold $1000 Year of the Rooster BU
In 1981, Hong Kong celebrated the Lunar Year of the Rooster with a striking gold coin of 1,000 Dollars. Minted by the Royal Mint, this issue contains 0.4708 troy ounces of gold and is composed of 0.9167 fine precious metal. It was manufactured to the identical physical specifications of the classic British Double Sovereign, or Two Pound coin, bridging traditional British minting standards with Chinese cultural traditions. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the inscription ELIZABETH THE SECOND. The reverse side depicts a stylized rooster alongside the face value of $1000 and the name of the issuing territory, HONG KONG. This piece is part of a celebrated Lunar Series that originally commenced in 1976, cataloged by numismatists as reference KM#48.
