1981 Mexico 1 oz Gold Libertad BU

1.0000 troy oz .900 1981 Brilliant Unc

In 1981, the Casa de Moneda de Mexico introduced a new gold bullion coin that would become a classic. This inaugural release of the one-ounce Gold Libertad established a design legacy, drawing its artistic inspiration from the historic Centenario coin. Struck in 0.900 fine gold, this first-year issue had a mintage of 596,000 pieces, representing a significant moment in modern Mexican coining history before the design was eventually updated in the year 2000. The reverse of the coin showcases the iconic Winged Victory, a symbol of freedom set against the dramatic backdrop of two famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. This side also displays the weight, purity, and the year 1981 alongside the "Mo" mint mark of the Mexico City Mint. On the obverse, the central focus is the Mexican National Shield, an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak, encircled by the inscription "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" to represent the nation's official name.
