The year 1986 marked the historic debut of a new American classic. This five dollar coin represents the inaugural release of the United States Mint's premier gold series, crafted from one-tenth of an ounce of actual gold with a purity of 0.9167. This specific specimen has been professionally graded as Mint State 69, indicating an exceptionally well-preserved coin with virtually no visible imperfections. The obverse features a legendary design adapted from the classic Gold Double Eagle. It depicts Lady Liberty striding forward against a backdrop of radiating sunbeams, holding a torch and an olive branch. The year of issue is displayed in Roman numerals as MCMLXXXVI. On the reverse, a family of bald eagles is brought to life. Designed by Miley Busiek, the scene illustrates a male eagle soaring through the air with an olive branch in its talons, returning to a nest that holds a female eagle and her young. This side also bears the traditional American mottos E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the country of origin and the face value.
