1986-S Roosevelt Dime Gem Proof
Introduced on January 30, 1946, the Roosevelt Dime serves as a lasting tribute to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. While early versions of this ten-cent denomination were struck in silver, the metallic makeup underwent a significant shift following the Coinage Act of 1965. Since that legislative change, these dimes have been minted using a cupronickel clad composition, which features a pure copper core bonded to outer layers of copper-nickel. This 1986 specimen from the San Francisco Mint is a Gem Proof, a designation that highlights its sharp details and reflective surfaces. The obverse features the portrait of Roosevelt accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the S mint mark and the year 1986. The reverse displays the traditional design with the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
