1986-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle PR-70 PCGS
In 1986, the United States introduced a new era of gold coinage with the debut of the American Eagle series. This fifty dollar coin contains one troy ounce of pure gold content, struck with a proof finish that highlights the intricate details of its historic and symbolic artwork. Produced at the West Point Mint, the coin bears the distinctive 'W' mint mark, signaling its origin. The front of the coin showcases a legendary design adapted from the 1907 Gold Double Eagle. It depicts Lady Liberty stepping forward, illuminated by the radiating rays of a rising sun. The Roman numerals MOMLXXXVI represent the 1986 year of issue, while the word LIBERTY arches over the top of the scene. On the reverse, a design by Miley Busiek captures a powerful family scene of America's national bird. A male bald eagle is shown in flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await. This side also displays the traditional mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the weight, metal purity, and the fifty dollar denomination.
