Introduced in the early years of the United States Mint's premier bullion program, this 1987 fifty-dollar gold coin represents a beautiful blend of historic and modern American numismatic art. Struck from one troy ounce of fine gold, the coin has been certified in an exceptional Mint State 69 condition, indicating its near-flawless preservation and sharp visual appeal. The obverse of the coin showcases a legendary design adapted from the 1907 Gold Double Eagle by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It depicts Lady Liberty walking forward with strength, her hair flowing as she is illuminated by the powerful rays of a rising sun. The year of issue is rendered in Roman numerals as MCMLXXXVII, maintaining the classical aesthetic of the original twentieth-century masterpiece. On the reverse, artist Miley Busiek captures a narrative of family and nature. A majestic male bald eagle is shown in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await.
