1988-D Kennedy Half Dollar BU
The 1988 Kennedy half dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, stands as a classic example of modern United States coinage. This particular specimen is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster and sharp details of a coin that never entered general circulation. Unlike earlier mid-century half dollars, this issue is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, a design created by sculptor Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned beneath the bust, while the Denver "D" mint mark is struck on the obverse to denote its origin. On the reverse, the design by Frank Gasparro displays a detailed heraldic eagle. The eagle holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing both strength and peace. This traditional motif is surrounded by the inscriptions indicating the nation of origin and the face value of fifty cents.
