Issued to commemorate the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, this United States silver dollar captures the spirit of international athletic competition. Struck at the Denver Mint, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. As a sovereign issue, it carries the official backing of the United States government. The obverse of the coin features a powerful image of unity and transition, showing one hand holding a lit torch to ignite another Olympic torch held by a second hand. The word OLYMPIAD and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST are clearly inscribed alongside the 1988 date and the D mint mark.
