Struck in 1989, this fifty dollar coin represents a notable moment in United States bullion production. Crafted with one troy ounce of pure gold content, the piece is composed of a 0.9167 fine alloy. Because gold is highly resistant to oxidation, these specimens preserve their precise dimensions and weight over time. The United States Mint manufactured this issue at its West Point facility, utilizing a slightly more malleable alloy than would be practical for coins intended for daily commercial circulation. The obverse features a celebrated depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This side displays the year of production in Roman numerals, MCMLXXXIX.
