1989-P Kennedy Half Dollar BU
The 1989 Kennedy half dollar stands as a classic example of modern American coinage, produced at the Philadelphia Mint. This particular specimen is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster and sharp details of its dual-artist design. Unlike earlier silver issues, this coin features a modern composition consisting of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The front of the coin features a left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, a design created by sculptor Gilroy Roberts. Positioned below the bust is the traditional motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, while the date 1989 is anchored at the bottom rim. The P mint mark, indicating its origin in Philadelphia, is positioned just above the date. On the reverse, the design by Frank Gasparro displays the heraldic eagle, a powerful symbol holding a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. This side of the coin carries the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, HALF DOLLAR, framing the central eagle motif.
