In 1991, a special silver dollar was minted to mark the fifty-year milestone of the United Service Organization. This proof coin, struck at the San Francisco Mint, contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900. It serves as a detailed artistic tribute to five decades of dedicated service. The obverse side, created by Robert Lamb, features a prominent banner bearing the letters USO, surrounded by the inscription FIFTY YEARS SERVICE TO SERVICE PEOPLE. This design highlights the core mission of the organization. On the reverse, artist John Mercanti depicted an eagle perched atop a globe, accompanied by the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the denomination ONE DOLLAR.
