In 1992, the United States Mint celebrated the XXV Olympic Games in Barcelona with a special silver commemorative coin dedicated to the sport of baseball. Struck at the San Francisco Mint with a proof finish, this dollar coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse of the coin, designed by John R. Deecken, captures the intensity of the game by depicting a pitcher poised at home plate. This active sporting scene is contrasted on the reverse by a design rich in national and global symbols.
