In 1995, the United States Mint celebrated the upcoming XXVI Summer Olympiad in Atlanta with a special commemorative half dollar dedicated to the game of baseball. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin features a composition of copper and nickel bonded directly to a core of pure copper. It remains a popular piece of modern numismatic history, with a total mintage of 118,087 pieces produced in brilliant uncirculated condition. The obverse of the coin captures the high-stakes tension of a baseball game, depicting a batter, catcher, and umpire gathered around home plate. This action-filled sports scene is complemented by the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 1995. On the reverse, the design shifts to the global stage of the games. It showcases the official emblem of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games positioned above a representation of the Atlantic Ocean.
