In 1995, the West Point Mint produced a striking half-ounce gold coin that showcases some of the most celebrated imagery in American numismatics. This twenty-five dollar denomination piece is struck in 0.9167 fine gold, containing exactly a half ounce of pure precious metal. It is distinguished by its proof finish, which gives the flat fields a highly reflective, mirror-like quality that contrasts sharply with the frosted details of the design. The front of the coin presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty, who stands holding a torch and an olive branch. This design is a modern adaptation of the famous artwork created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the early twentieth-century double eagle. The year 1995 is clearly inscribed on this side, alongside the 'W' mint mark that identifies its origin at the West Point facility. On the reverse, a family of eagles is depicted in a detailed scene designed by Miley Busiek. A male eagle is shown in mid-flight above a nest, carrying an olive branch, while a female eagle and her young wait below. This side also displays the traditional national mottos 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', along with the weight and face value inscriptions.
