Struck at the West Point Mint in 1995, this one-ounce gold coin represents a beautiful marriage of traditional and modern American numismatic art. The piece is a proof strike, meaning it was produced using specially prepared dies and polished blanks to create a striking contrast between frosted details and mirror-like fields. This particular specimen has been certified in an exceptional Proof 69 Deep Cameo grade. The obverse of the coin displays a famous depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown walking forward with strength, her hair wind-swept, set against a backdrop of radiant sunbeams. This iconic image is adapted from the early twentieth-century Gold Double Eagle design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Legible inscriptions on this side include the date of 1995 and the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST." On the reverse, a design by Miley Busiek captures a family of bald eagles. A male eagle is depicted mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and her young await. Surrounding this scene are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the weight and denomination details, "1-OZ. FINE GOLD-50 DOLLARS." The West Point "W" mint mark is also clearly visible, marking its origin from this historic facility which produced a total mintage of 46,368 of these coins.
