The front of the coin features a classic design adapted from the famous Gold Double Eagle created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It portrays Lady Liberty walking confidently forward, illuminated by the radiating rays of a rising sun. On the reverse side, an original design by Miley Busiek depicts a male bald eagle soaring through the air, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await. While these coins were minted for general circulation and collection, a select group of 218 pieces from this specific year have been certified in the highest possible grade of Mint State 70 (MS-70).
