1997 Australia 1/4 oz Gold Lunar Ox BU (Series I)
1997 Australia 1/4 oz Gold Lunar Ox BU (Series I)
Struck in 1997, this Australian gold coin represents the second entry in the Perth Mint's celebrated Gold Lunar Series. It is a release of particular note for observers of the series, holding the distinction of having the lowest mintage among all the Series I lunar designs, with only 2,904 pieces produced. Crafted from 1/4 ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold, the coin is backed as official sovereign currency by the government of Australia. The reverse of the coin features an artistic depiction of an ox turning to look over its shoulder, a design created by Jovan Radanovich. This central figure celebrates the Chinese zodiac year. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf, alongside the face value of 25 Dollars and the metal weight and purity inscriptions.
