1997-P Botanical Garden $1 Silver Commem Proof (w/Box & COA)
In 1997, the United States Mint released a special silver dollar to mark the 175th anniversary of the United States Botanic Garden, an institution dedicated to the appreciation and study of plant life. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a proof edition, this coin is crafted from 90 percent silver and contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse side of the coin displays the detailed architectural facade of the historic Botanic Garden conservatory building. Legible inscriptions on this side include the word LIBERTY, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, the commemorative dates 1820 to 1995, and the designation UNITED STATES BOTANIC GARDEN. On the reverse, the design shifts from architecture to nature, showcasing a single, detailed rose blossom in the center. A delicate garland of roses wraps around the inner rim of the coin. The reverse inscriptions confirm the face value of ONE DOLLAR, the issuing nation UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
