1997-S Silver Washington Quarter Gem Proof
1997-S Silver Washington Quarter Gem Proof
Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1997, this twenty-five cent piece represents a beautiful marriage of precious metal and classic American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of the precious metal. It is preserved in exceptional Proof condition, a state that highlights the sharp contrast between the frosted design elements and the deep, mirror-like background fields. The obverse of the coin displays the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, a design originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's profile are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1997 year of issue and the S mint mark, which denotes its origin in San Francisco. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is positioned just above the eagle, while the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame the central design, completing this classic piece of United States coinage.
