1997-W 1/4 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle PR-69 PCGS
In 1997, the United States introduced a new metallic canvas for its coinage, crafting the very first American Platinum Eagle. This quarter-ounce proof edition, struck at the West Point Mint, showcases a brilliant finish that highlights the intricate details of its patriotic design. With a limited production of only 18,628 pieces, this coin represents the beginning of America's premier platinum series. The obverse presents a striking portrait of Liberty, accompanied by the year 1997 and the traditional mottos "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum". The West Point mintmark, "W", is also visible on this side, denoting its origin of manufacture. On the reverse, an American eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring gracefully across the face of a rising sun. This side of the coin also displays the country of origin, "United States of America", alongside the face value of $25. The metal content is clearly marked, indicating a weight of 1/4 ounce and a purity of 0.9995 fine platinum.
