Struck at the West Point Mint in 1998, this one ounce gold coin represents a beautiful marriage of historic and modern American numismatic art. The piece is composed of 0.9167 fine gold and carries a face value of fifty dollars. Evaluated at a near-perfect Proof 69 Deep Cameo, the coin displays an exceptional contrast between its frosted design elements and highly reflective fields. The obverse side presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward, bathed in the rays of the sun. This design, originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was inspired by the famous 1907 Gold Double Eagle. On the reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, a male bald eagle is captured mid-flight as it carries an olive branch back to a nest containing a female eagle and their young. Legible inscriptions on the coin reinforce its national heritage. The reverse features the phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
