In 1999, the United States Mint embarked on a historic multi-year journey to honor each of the fifty states, releasing five unique designs per year. This Denver-minted quarter stands as the fifth entry in this celebrated series, representing the state of Connecticut with a design rich in local lore. The reverse of the coin features a detailed depiction of the Charter Oak. This famous tree served as a historic hiding spot to safeguard the original constitution of Connecticut from British seizure. Designed by T. James Ferrell, the reverse also bears the inscriptions "CONNECTICUT," "THE CHARTER OAK," and the year of release, "1999," alongside the traditional national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." On the obverse, a classic profile of George Washington faces left, originally created by designer John Flanagan. This side displays the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR," along with the "D" mint mark indicating its origin at the Denver Mint. This particular coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing its original luster. Structurally, the coin is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper.
