On January 4, 1999, the United States Mint launched a revolutionary numismatic program, starting with a quarter dedicated to Delaware. This Denver Mint issue, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, represents the very beginning of a decade-long celebration of all fifty states. Crafted from a copper-nickel alloy bonded to a pure copper core, the coin showcases a dual-themed design that bridges two centuries of American history. The reverse of the coin features Caesar Rodney on his historic 1776 horseback ride, a pivotal moment for the state nicknamed "The First State." This side also bears the state's name, the year 1787 to mark its entry into the Union, and the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" alongside the 1999 issue date. The artwork on this side was designed by William Cousins. On the obverse, a familiar profile of George Washington graces the coin, originally designed by John Flanagan. This side displays the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "QUARTER DOLLAR," "LIBERTY," and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The small "D" mint mark signifies its production at the Denver facility, making this coin a fascinating piece of modern American minting history.
