1999-D New Jersey State Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 1999 Brilliant Unc

In 1999, the United States Mint embarked on a historic numismatic journey, honoring each of the fifty states in the order of their admission to the Union. This Denver Mint issue represents New Jersey, the third state celebrated in this landmark series. Struck with a brilliant uncirculated finish, the coin is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse displays the familiar profile of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan and modified by William Cousins for this modern series. This side includes the Denver mint mark, represented by a small letter D, alongside the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust. The reverse side, designed by Alfred Maletsky, depicts a pivotal moment in early American history with the theme Crossroads of the Revolution. It portrays George Washington and his soldiers crossing the icy Delaware River in 1787. The design is framed by the state name, the year of its statehood, the year of the coin's release, and the national motto, E Pluribus Unum.
