In 1999, the United States Mint embarked on a historic multi-year journey to honor each state in the Union, releasing the Georgia quarter as the fourth installment in this celebrated program. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this Brilliant Uncirculated coin is composed of a copper and nickel blend bonded to a core of pure copper. The piece showcases a brilliant luster that highlights the intricate details of its dual-sided artwork. The obverse features the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan and modified for this series by William Cousins. Surrounding the first president's portrait are the traditional inscriptions, including LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR. On the reverse, designed by T. James Ferrell, Georgia's rich natural heritage and foundational values come to life. A silhouetted outline of the state serves as the backdrop for a ripe peach, flanked by sprigs of live oak. The state motto, WISDOM, JUSTICE, MODERATION, is elegantly draped across the design, while the statehood year of 1788 and the coin's release year of 1999 frame this tribute to the Peach State.
