$2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle MS-62 PCGS
The United States gold quarter eagle minted between 1908 and 1929 represents a radical departure from traditional coin minting techniques. Unlike typical coins where the design stands out in relief above the surface, this two and a half dollar gold piece features an incuse design, meaning the details are pressed deep into the metal, leaving the background as the highest point. This unique sunken-relief approach was crafted by Bela Lyon Pratt, giving the coin a distinct tactile and visual character. On the obverse, the coin displays a portrait of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American headdress. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, alongside the word LIBERTY and the year of issue. The reverse of the coin features a proud bald eagle standing amidst the traditional national mottos, E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the issuing authority, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value. Struck by the U.S. Mint at facilities in Philadelphia and Denver, each coin is composed of 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.12094 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen has been officially certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition, preserving the intricate details of its revolutionary recessed engraving.
