Minted between the years 1908 and 1929, this coin is celebrated for its unusual incuse design, meaning the details are sunken into the flat surface of the gold rather than raised above it. This innovative approach gives the coin a distinct texture and a highly unusual visual depth. On the obverse, the design depicts Liberty wearing a traditional Native American feather headdress. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, alongside the word LIBERTY and the year of issue. The reverse showcases a majestic bald eagle standing proudly, accompanied by the national mottos E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination of two and a half dollars also frame the reverse scene. Crafted with 0.12094 troy ounces of gold at a purity of 0.900, these coins were produced at either the Philadelphia or Denver mints.
