She wears a band inscribed with the word "LIBERTY" in her hair, surrounded by an arc of thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse showcases a proud heraldic eagle with a protective shield draped across its chest. In its talons, the eagle holds symbols of national strength, encircled by the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the face value of two and a half dollars. This enduring design was originally created by Christian Gobrecht.
