Struck in a substantial 39 mm high-relief format, this modern silver round honors a monumental milestone in American transportation. It contains two troy ounces of 0.999 fine silver and marks the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion, a feat that permanently linked the eastern and western halves of the United States. The obverse design captures the historic moment on May 10, 1869, when two different rail lines finally met in Utah. Arching across the top of this side are the words "TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD," while the bottom is inscribed with "1869 (sesquicentennial) 2019" to mark the century and a half that has passed since that fateful day. On the reverse, the imagery focuses on the opposing steam locomotives facing one another, alongside the famous ceremonial spike that joined the tracks.
