During the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, ten towering heraldic statues stood watch, representing the rich ancestral lineage of the British monarchy. These figures, originally sculpted by James Woodford, drew inspiration from the historical King's Beasts of Henry VIII. Today, this royal heritage is celebrated in a stunning series of silver coins, each containing two ounces of exceptionally pure 0.9999 fine silver. The obverse of these five-pound legal tender coins features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. On the reverse, the designs showcase various heraldic beasts, beautifully reimagined by designer Jody Clark. Each creature represents a branch of royal genealogy, bringing centuries of British history to life through intricate metalwork. Among these legendary guardians is the Lion of England, a crowned golden beast that has supported the Royal Arms since the year 1603. In this specific design, the lion holds a shield depicting the Arms of the United Kingdom, unchanged since the era of Queen Victoria. The shield is divided into quarters, displaying the lions of England, the lion and double tressure of Scotland, and the traditional harp of Ireland.
