$20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle (Cleaned)

0.9675 troy oz .900 Genuine

Introduced in the mid nineteenth century, the twenty dollar gold piece represents a significant era in United States coinage. These substantial coins were produced from 1850 to 1907 across various federal minting facilities, including Philadelphia, Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, and San Francisco. To ensure the physical durability needed for circulation, the gold was alloyed with copper, resulting in a composition that contains 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair secured by a band inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars encircle her image, representing the original colonies. On the reverse, artist James B. Longacre depicted a heraldic eagle bearing a shield on its chest, positioned beneath a canopy of thirteen stars. The reverse also displays the issuing country and the face value of the coin.
