$20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-62 NGC (1800s S-Mint)

0.9675 troy oz .900 MS-62 (NGC)

During the 1800s, the San Francisco Mint struck impressive gold pieces that served as vital pillars of American commerce. Among these, the twenty-dollar gold coin, often called the Double Eagle, stands out as a massive and beautiful specimen of United States coinage. This specific piece has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition, preserving the intricate details of its nineteenth-century craftsmanship. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair secured with a pearl-bordered diadem that clearly displays the inscription "LIBERTY". Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, along with the year of issue. On the reverse, artist James B. Longacre placed a majestic eagle with its wings fully spread, shielding its breast with a patriotic escutcheon. Above the eagle, an oval of thirteen stars is bathed in a halo of rays. The outer edge is inscribed with "United States of America" and the denomination "Twenty Dollars". Struck from 0.900 fine gold, this coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal, representing a historic era of American minting.
