2000 Australia 1/2 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU (Series I)
Struck by the Perth Mint, this half-ounce silver coin from the year 2000 marks the second release in the celebrated twelve-coin Lunar Series I. The coin is minted from 0.999 fine silver and carries a face value of 50 Cents, fully backed by the government of Australia. The reverse side showcases a traditional Chinese dragon alongside the symbolic pearl of wisdom. Designed by Tony Dean, this side also features the Chinese character representing the dragon, emphasizing the cultural significance of the lunar calendar cycle. The year of issue and the silver purity are also noted on this face. On the obverse, the coin displays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The monarch's name, the issuing nation of Australia, and the half-dollar denomination are clearly inscribed around the portrait. With a total mintage of 52,956 pieces, this Brilliant Uncirculated issue remains a fascinating study in modern numismatic design.
