2000 Australia 2 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU
2000 Australia 2 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU
The year 2000 marked a significant milestone in Australia's modern numismatic history with the release of the second design in the inaugural Lunar Series. This substantial two-ounce coin is struck from 0.999 fine silver, offering a heavy, tactile way to appreciate the artistry of the Perth Mint. Backed by the Australian government as official sovereign currency, it carries a face value of two dollars. One side of the coin features an intricate depiction of a traditional Chinese dragon, a legendary creature symbolizing power and good fortune. The dragon is shown alongside a pearl of wisdom, a classic element in Chinese mythology. The Chinese character representing the dragon is also integrated into this reverse design, which was crafted by artist Tony Dean. The other side displays the familiar effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding the royal portrait, the inscriptions confirm the monarch's name, the country of origin, the coin's two-dollar denomination, and its metal specifications, declaring its weight of two ounces and its silver purity.
