In the year 2000, the United States Mint continued its popular multi-year celebration of the states with the release of the New Hampshire quarter. Struck at the Denver facility, this particular coin represents the ninth entry in the historic fifty-coin series. It is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster of its copper-nickel clad composition, which is bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse features the classic portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan, facing left. This side bears the familiar inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR," alongside the "D" mint mark indicating its Denver origin. The reverse side displays a famous natural landmark that has come to symbolize the spirit of the state. Designed by William Cousins, the imagery depicts the distinctive stone profile known as the Old Man of the Mountain. Surrounding this rugged rock formation is the bold state motto, "LIVE FREE OR DIE," along with nine stars representing New Hampshire's status as the ninth state to join the Union. The inscriptions "NEW HAMPSHIRE," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the year "2000" complete this tribute to the Granite State.
