Issued in the year 2000, this Denver-minted quarter dollar represents the eighth release in the celebrated 50 State Quarters Program. Struck from a copper-nickel blend bonded to a pure copper core, this brilliant uncirculated coin showcases a blend of historic portraiture and rich regional imagery. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington, a classic design by John Flanagan. Alongside the portrait, the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are clearly struck, accompanied by the "D" mint mark representing the Denver Mint. On the reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, the coin displays a detailed tribute to South Carolina. An outline of the state serves as the backdrop for several prominent local symbols, including the palmetto tree, the Carolina wren, and the yellow jessamine.
