In the year 2000, the United States Mint continued its popular fifty-state commemorative initiative with the release of the Virginia quarter. This specific coin, struck at the Denver Mint, represents the tenth entry in the landmark series. Preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, it showcases a distinct metal composition featuring an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded to an interior core of pure copper. The obverse side presents the familiar profile of George Washington, a classic design originally created by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins. Legible inscriptions on this face include the words LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, along with the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR and the D mint mark representing the Denver facility. Turning the coin over reveals a reverse design dedicated to the historic settlement of Jamestown. It features a detailed depiction of the three legendary sailing vessels: the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery. This side of the coin is inscribed with VIRGINIA, the year 1788 to mark statehood, and the word JAMESTOWN. It also bears the inscription QUADRICENTENNIAL, referencing the four-hundred-year milestone, alongside the year 2000 and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
