2000-S Virginia State Quarter Gem Proof (Silver)

0.1788 troy oz .900 2000 Proof

The year 2000 marked the release of the tenth issue in the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program, representing the Commonwealth of Virginia. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin is a proof edition composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. The proof finish highlights the intricate details of the design with sharp, reflective surfaces. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic profile of George Washington. This side features the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the S mint mark, indicating its origin in San Francisco. The reverse of the quarter commemorates the historic settlement of Jamestown. It depicts three legendary vessels, the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery, which brought the first permanent English colonists to these shores. The reverse is inscribed with VIRGINIA, JAMESTOWN 1607 to 2007, and QUADRICENTENNIAL, alongside the year 1788, which marks Virginia's entry into the Union.
