2001 Australia 1/10 Gold Kangaroo BU
The 2001 Australian Gold Kangaroo is a remarkable example of modern sovereign coinage, backed fully by the government of Australia. Struck in a tenth of an ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold, this coin represents a continuation of a beloved series that originally began under a different name. Prior to 1990, the program was known as the Gold Nugget series, but it transitioned to celebrate the nation's most famous marsupial, introducing a fresh kangaroo illustration on the reverse every year for the one ounce and fractional versions. The obverse of this 15 Dollar denomination coin bears the classic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by inscriptions indicating her name, the issuing nation of Australia, and the face value. On the reverse, the central focus is the yearly kangaroo design, accompanied by details of the coin's weight, its metal purity, and the year 2001. A small "P" mint mark is also present on this side, indicating its origin from the Perth Mint.
