The 2001 Denver Mint quarter celebrates the natural beauty and heritage of Vermont. Struck in a brilliant uncirculated finish, this piece features a copper-nickel clad composition bonded to a core of pure copper. The coin serves as a miniature canvas capturing the spirit of the Green Mountain State, combining rugged geography with a traditional local industry. On the reverse, designed by T. James Ferrell, the majestic profile of Camel's Hump Mountain rises in the background. In the foreground, maple trees stand equipped with sap buckets, a nod to the state's famous syrup production. The scene is framed by the inscriptions "VERMONT" and "1791", along with the state motto, "FREEDOM AND UNITY". The obverse features the familiar portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Alongside the president's profile, the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST", and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are clearly struck. The small "D" mint mark denotes that this piece was minted at the Denver facility, while the year 2001 and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are anchored at the bottom of the reverse design.
